In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces new limitations on the size of indoor and outdoor gatherings in some parts of the province. The new restrictions come as Toronto, Peel Region, and Ottawa have all seen a growing number of COVID-19 cases in recent days. Outdoor gatherings in those three areas are now reduced to 25 people, while indoor gatherings can’t exceed 10 people. The previous limits were 50 people allowed indoors and 100 people for outdoor gatherings. The Ontario government is also introducing legislation to freeze residential rent in 2021 and to extend the ban on commercial evictions. The premier is joined by provincial cabinet ministers Christine Elliott (health) and Steve Clark (municipal affairs and housing), as well as Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health.
