முள்ளிவாய்க்கால் நினைவு நாள்- 27 persons including two MPs banned from Mullivaikkal commemorations

Seven Police Stations in the Mullaitivu District have obtained court injunctions against 27 individuals, including two Member of Parliaments (MPs), preventing them from carrying out Mullivaikkal commemorations, reports Tamil Guardian on May 15. The applications were put in by the Mullaitivu, Puthukudiyiruppu, Mankulam, Oddusuddan, Mallavi, Iyankankulam and Mulliyawalai Police Stations. The 27 individuals include elected politicians and civil society activists. The Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) MPs Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam and Selvarajah Kajendran were targeted by three different Police Stations. Tamils celebrate May 18 as Tamil genocide day at Mullivaikkal village in Mullaitivu District of Northern Province where thousands of Tamils were massacred by the Sri Lankan state in the final days of the armed conflict with Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
