Canadian government advises against non-essential international travel

At a news conference on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, ministers and health officials provide an update on the federal response to COVID-19 (coronavirus disease). In light of fears about the rapid spread of the highly transmissible Omicron variant, the federal government is advising Canadians once again to avoid non-essential travel outside the country. In attendance at the news conference are ministers Chrystia Freeland (finance), Dominic LeBlanc (intergovernmental affairs) Jean-Yves Duclos (health), and Omar Alghabra (transport), as well as Dr. Theresa Tam (Canada’s chief public health officer) and Dr. Howard Njoo (the deputy chief public health officer).
