Ontario Premier Doug Ford on COVID-19 restrictions, $1.3B for school safety – September 8, 2020
In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces that his government will provide $1.3 billion in funding to support the safe reopening of schools during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The funding will include investments in personal protective equipment and the hiring of more teachers, nurses and custodians. Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott also announces that the province will take a four-week pause before considering the loosening of any current public health restrictions, including permitting more businesses to reopen. The premier and health minister are joined by Stephen Lecce, Ontario’s minister of education, and Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health.
