பிரித்தானிய நாடாளுமன்ற தேர்தலில் Uma Kumaran வெற்றி
பிரிட்டன் தேர்தலில் ஈழத் தமிழ் பின்புலம் கொண்ட உமா குமரன் (Uma Kumaran) வெற்றி பெற்றுள்ளார். தொழிலாளர் கட்சியின் சார்பில் போட்டியிட்ட உமா குமரன், லண்டன் ஸ்டிராட்ஃபோர்டு (Stratford and Bow ) தொகுதியில் 19,145 வாக்குகள் பெற்று பெரும் வெற்றியடைந்துள்ளார்.
இதன்மூலம், பிரித்தானிய வரலாற்றில் முதல் தமிழ் பெண் அமைச்சராக மாற்றினார். உமா குமரனை எதிர்த்து போட்டியிட்ட கன்சர்வேட்டிவ் கட்சி வேட்பாளரான கேன் பிளாக்வெல், 3,144 வாக்குகள் மட்டுமே பெற்று நான்காவது இடத்தில் உள்ளார்.
இந்த வெற்றியினால், பிரிட்டன் நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் அங்கம் வகிக்கபோகும் முதலாவது ஈழத் தமிழ் பின்னணியைக் கொண்ட பெண் என்ற பெருமை உமா குமரனுக்கு கிடைத்துள்ளது. ஸ்டிராபோர்ட் அன்ட் போவின் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினராக அவர் தெரிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளார் என தேர்தல் அதிகாரி அறிவித்துள்ளார்.
உலக அரங்கில் நீதிக்கான எங்கள் வேண்டுகோள்களை வலுப்படுத்த வேண்டும். பேரழிவையும் உயிரிழப்பையும் நிலத்தை இழந்ததையும் நாங்கள் மறக்கமாட்டோம் என உமா குமரன் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.

இவரது தேர்தல் பிரச்சாரத்தில் – My views on Palestine:
I know that the residents of Stratford and Bow care deeply about the tragedy in Palestine.
The scenes of destruction, broken communities and killing of innocent civilians are appalling and intolerable.
It is unacceptable that women and children make up such a huge percentage of the death toll.
We cannot stand by. We must act now to stop the bloodshed.
This war must come to an end, through an immediate ceasefire, the immediate release of all hostages and unimpeded aid access to Gaza.
I fully support the work of the international courts in pursuing justice for what has been done.
The next Labour government will work alongside international partners to recognise the state of Palestine alongside the state of Israel, as part of a negotiated two-state solution.
This is personal for me.
My parents fled a civil war in Sri Lanka, there was a genocide. My family, like so many others, lives with the scars of war to this day.
I can’t imagine the lasting impact this will have on the innocent children and people of Palestine.
I am the only local candidate who can work with the next government to ensure that a ceasefire and the provision of aid is Britain’s priority.
